Message sur les concours chercheurs 2026

Cher.e.s collègues,

La section 04 du Comité national siégera en jury d’admissibilité pour les concours 2026 numéro 04/01 (10 postes DR2) et 04/02 à 04/10 (10 postes CRCN) publiés au Journal officiel en date du 9 décembre 2025.  

  • La date d’ouverture des inscriptions est fixée au 12 décembre 2025 à 13 heures, heure de Paris.
  • La date de clôture des inscriptions est fixée au 12 janvier 2026 à 13 heures, heure de Paris.

La procédure de candidature et un guide du candidat sont également publiés sur le site du concours CNRS. La section rappelle que sa méthodologie et ses critères sont disponibles ici (français) et ici (anglais).

Concernant les concours CRCN, 10 postes sont proposés répartis sur 9 concours (04/02 à 04/10) : la section encourage vivement toute candidature dont le profil relève de ces thématiques. Elle précise que les personnes candidates peuvent s’inscrire à plusieurs concours, ayant la possibilité de déposer des dossiers et des projets de recherche adaptés à chaque concours envisagé. 

Les neuf concours sont “fléchés” thématiquement et géographiquement, avec des descriptifs des postes plus ou moins larges permettant à des candidats et candidates aux profils variés de candidater dès lors qu’ils ou elles envisagent les thèmes et affectations proposées :

  • le concours 04/02 affiche une thématique scientifique large et un seul laboratoire d’affectation,
  • les concours 04/03, 04/04, 04/05, 04/06, 04/07, 04/08 et 04/09 affichent plusieurs laboratoires d’affectation possibles et des thématiques scientifiques permettant une affectation dans différentes équipes de recherches en fonction des projets de recherches proposés par les personnes candidates,
  • le concours 04/10 affiche une thématique scientifique large et une affectation possible parmi toutes les unités rattachées à CNRS Terre et Univers (INSU) à titre principal. A noter que de façon réciproque, un poste sur la thématique « Etude de l’énergie noire avec les grands relevés » et affecté dans un des laboratoires de l’IN2P3 est mis au concours dans la section 19 (concours 19/03).

Le jury évaluera l’excellence scientifique des personnes candidates à partir de l’activité de recherche et des travaux scientifiques effectués pendant la thèse et les éventuels séjours postdoctoraux, en veillant à identifier les apports personnels dans les résultats présentés. Le deuxième élément d’évaluation sera le (ou les) projet(s) de recherche.

Concernant le concours 04/01 de directeur de recherche de 2ème classe (DR2), la section souligne que le CNRS a ouvert au concours une vingtaine de postes supplémentaires (DR externes), toutes thématiques et tous instituts du CNRS confondus, pour des candidats et candidates externes : dès lors, la section encourage vivement toute personne dont le profil relève des thématiques de l’institut Nucléaire et Particules et ayant l’ancienneté requise dans une activité de recherche à postuler au concours 04/01.

Un site de dépôt des lettres de recommandations sera disponible prochainement sur le site du CNRS et les candidates et candidats pourront donc donner cette information aux personnalités scientifiques dont elles souhaiteraient un avis. La section rappelle qu’elle n’est pas habilitée à recevoir des lettres directement. Enfin, le programme de recherche proposé peut être accompagné d’une lettre de soutien de la direction du laboratoire concerné, mais cela n’est pas obligatoire et son absence n’hypothèquera pas les chances des personnes candidates.

Pour les concours 04/01 à 04/10, le jury d’admissibilité sur dossier se tiendra du 23 au 25 février 2026. Pour les candidats sélectionnés pour les concours 04/02 à 04/10, une audition, celles-ci se tiendront du 23 au 28 mars 2026 en présentiel au laboratoire LPNHE (Paris – France). Cependant, nous rappelons que des aménagements d’épreuves sont possibles pour les personnes en situation de handicap dans les conditions prévues par les arrêtés d’ouverture des concours. Pour les candidates et candidats résidant à l’étranger, les candidates enceintes et les candidates et candidats dont l’état de santé le justifie, l’audition peut être organisée en visioconférence sur demande auprès du service central des concours.

CNRS competition 2026 : Communication from the section

Dear colleagues

The Section 04 will stand as the “jury d’admissibilité” for the CNRS competition number 04/01 (10 positions DR2) and 04/02 to 04/10 (10 positions CRCN), published in the Official Journal of December 9th 2025.

  • The opening date for the applications is set to December 12th 2025 at 13h, Paris Time.
  • The closing date for the applications is set to January 12th 2026 at 13h, Paris Time.

The application procedure and a candidate’s guide are also published on the website of the CNRS competition. The methodology and selection criteria of Section 04 are available here (in french) and (in english).

Regarding the CRCN competition, 10 positions are open through 9 competitions (04/02 to 04/10) : the section strongly encourages any applicant whose profile relates to those topics. We emphasize on the fact that the candidates can apply to several competitions, having the possibility to submit applications and research projects adapted to each competition.

The nine competitions are thematically and geographically focused, with position descriptions more or less restrictives allowing candidates with different profiles to  compete providing they fit within the proposed scientific thematics and geographical affectations :

  • the competition 04/02 proposes a large scientific thematic and only one laboratory for the affectation,
  • the competitions 04/03, 04/04, 04/05, 04/06, 04/07, 04/08 and 04/09 propose several laboratories for the affectation and scientific thematics allowing to join different research teams depending on the proposed research projects of the candidates,
  • the competition 04/10 proposes a large scientific thematic and a possible affectation among all the research units primarily depending from CNRS Terre et Univers (INSU). Note that, reciprocally, a position on the thematic « Study of dark energy with large surveys » and assigned to one of the IN2P3 laboratories is open in section 19 (competition 19/03).

The jury will assess the scientific excellence of the candidates firstly on the basis of the research activity and scientific work carried out during the thesis and any post-doctoral stays, being careful to identify the personal contribution of the candidates to the results presented. The second element of evaluation of excellence will be the research project(s).

Concerning the 04/01 competition for senior scientists (DR2), the section emphasizes that the CNRS will opened up about twenty additional positions for external candidates in all fields and institutes of the CNRS : therefore, the section strongly encourages any person whose profile relates to the scientific themes of Nuclei and Particles Institute, and having the requested experience in research activities, to apply for the 04/01 competition.

A website to submit recommendation letters will be available soon on the CNRS web site and the candidates can therefore give this information to scientific personalities to which they request recommendation letters. The section recalls that they cannot receive such support letters directly. Finally the proposed research project may be accompanied by a letter of support from the direction of the laboratory. This is not mandatory and its absence does not jeopardise the candidate’s application.

For the 04/01 to 04/10 competitions, the jury d’admissibilité sur dossier will be held from February 23rd to February 25th 2026. For the candidates selected for an interview for competitions 04/02 to 04/10, it will be held in person from March 23rd to 28th, 2026, at the laboratory LPNHE (Paris – France). However, we remind you that adaptations of auditions are possible for people in a situation of disability under the conditions provided for by the decrees opening the competitions. For candidates residing abroad, pregnant candidates and candidates whose state of health justifies it, the audition can be organised in videoconference on request to the central competition service.
